Everything You Need to Know About Lithium Batteries for Your RV

The battery system of your RV in the heart of every performance your RV will do. From significant components to even the minor details of your RV is powered by this excellent system. In that sense, it is very critical to choose the right batteries for your RV.

Nowadays, the trend for RV battery systems includes the best Lithium RV batteries. Although the first impression of these batteries is costly, we would like to give you information about how this battery system can benefit you in the long run.

As you read along with this article, you will know everything that you need to learn about Lithium batteries for your RV.

What is a Lithium Battery?

Lithium batteries were invented and developed during the 1970s and 1980s. From then on, it provided a different perspective on how we can use our electric appliances. But its magnificent benefits came to its popularity only recently. Hence, it caters to motorhomes, boaters, caravaners, and anyone who needed 12V powered batteries.

This type of battery is often referred to as lithium-metal as well. Also, this battery is widely used in portable electronic devices that range from full-sized vehicles up to even the most miniature radio-controlled toys. The term “lithium battery” refers to various lithium-metal chemistry families consisting of many cathodes and electrolytes but all with metallic lithium as the anode.

Lithium batteries are also designed to be used for the long run, such as pacemakers and other implantable devices.

Things you need to know about lithium battery

Now that you understand what a lithium battery is let us talk more about the things you need to know.

Voltage

It would be best if you researched what voltage your RV needs. This is to make sure that you are getting the right one for your use. Also, getting the proper voltage will give you the performance it is intended to do.

As advice, you should stick to 12 voltage instead of the 24 voltage lithium battery. Why? If you still want to keep your lead acid battery, you won’t need an overall change on your RV. DO not worry because it can even power up all your RV appliances.

The only thing you need to consider changing to a 24 volt is when you want to have a power like your traditional home.

Type of Battery Chemistry

We will have a little technical talk about these types of batteries. This is very important to make sure that you have the right one for your RV.

Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) – often used in phones and electric cars but beware of thermal issues.

Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO$4) – this type is more durable.

Given this, if you want to live off the grid, considering changing to lithium batteries is a wise choice.

Advantages of using Lithium batteries for your RV

We know that if you are using the usual or traditional battery system for your RV, it will be difficult to change that. We want to introduce a modern approach to make sure that you can enjoy your RV lifestyle to the fullest.

  • Replacement to lead-acid batteries – lead-acid batteries are primarily dependent on hazardous and restricted lead. They also have lower volumetric energy density resulting in impractical deployment.
  • Ability to charge quickly – Compared to a lead-acid battery, lithium batteries charge twice as much.
  • Environment friendly – this battery is not an environmental hazard except when containing heavy metals. Also, human and ecological toxicity is very low.
  • Safe to use – with everyday use, it has no liquid leaks or toxic fumes emitted out of the battery. On top of that, it has no risk of fire.
  • Zero- maintenance –  It has a minimal rate of self-discharge. This means you can leave them unattended for months. Also, you can discharge it for about 95 percent but without damaging the battery.

 Conclusion

The life of your RV depends on what powers it. It is a must for you to choose what is wise on your budget and what is brilliant for your RV. On top of that, considering all factors that might affect your daily RV life is something you look into before diving into lithium batteries.
