SaeedJaffrey: Film and Stage Actor Dies at Age 86:
Saeed Jaffrey, experienced star of British film and Bollywood, has died in age 86.
The actor’s niece Shaheen Aggarwal on SaeedJaffrey Facebook page shared news of his departure on Sunday.
In a career that spanned more than half a century, nearly 200 screen appearances were made by Jaffrey, working with directors including Richard Attenborough, James Ivory, David Lean, John Huston and Stephen Frears.
Jaffrey appeared frequently on the British little screen, his credits including shopkeeper Ravi Desai on Coronation Street Gangsters, The Jewel in the Crown, Common as Muck, and in 1999.
Narendra Modi, the Indian prime minister, was among the first to pay his condolences, commending Jaffrey’s “genius & versatility” as a performer.
